Cheyenne Lee (b. 2001) is an interdisciplinary artist from the rural Midwest, now based in Detroit. Her work explores the psychological and bodily impact of environments—how the spaces we inhabit shape, transform, or harm us. Through an interplay of shape, color, and materiality, she investigates the relationship between the physical body and its surroundings, reflecting on themes of memory, absence, past and present emotions, and transformation.

Cheyenne’s practice has expanded into three-dimensional work, integrating wood, textiles, and acrylic—mostly found or repurposed materials—to create immersive, delicate environments. By activating the senses through texture and form, she invites deeper engagement, exploring what safety looks like and how space can hold or challenge us. Drawing from personal and collective family histories, she often considers these ideas through the lens of girlhood and womanhood, using abstraction to navigate themes of absence, resilience, and self-reflection.

Rooted in nature’s rhythms and the echoes of past experiences, her work is a conversation between internal landscapes and external realities—urging us to question how we move through, respond to, and are shaped by our environments.
